JIA High School provides a rigorous curriculum to prepare students to be successful citizens in our ever-changing world. Our mission is to provide an engaging, personalized learning experience, bringing the home, school, and world together.

Program Options

High school enrollment offers two program options for families.

Students access up to three online elective courses throughout the week with opportunities to participate in optional learning experiences with an approved community partner.

Our committed senior high teachers believe in challenging students with high expectations that help them grow as critical thinkers and lifelong learners to reach their post-secondary goals. 

Full-time online students take six courses per semester: English Languages Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, as well as two elective options with a variety of options in the subjects of art, music, physical education, technology, and world languages. They engage in weekly synchronous live sessions for each course, along with Advisory, in order to connect with students in their grade.

Each full-time student is provided a Chromebook, along with mobile wifi connectivity, to access courses.

Learning Center
Staffed by JIA teachers, the High School Learning Center is open Monday - Thursday from 8:00am - 3:00pm for students to drop-in for assistance, to work in groups, or just for a change of scenery.

In-Person Labs
JIA teachers regularly invite students in grades 9 - 12 on campus for enrichment labs and hands-on opportunities throughout the year (science labs, math labs, PE workouts, etc.).

Split-Schedule Courses
JIA students in grades 9 - 12 can take up to 2 classes in-person on campus at Jenison Junior High and/or Senior High.

Personalized Pathways
Tech Center, Work-Based Learning, and Dual Enrollment (earning college and high school credit) are a few of the personalized pathways to support students reaching their career and/or college goals.

Sports & Extracurriculars
JIA students in grades 9 - 12 have access to JPS MHSAA sports, extracurricular activities, and clubs available in the district for their grade level.

High School Optional On-Campus Opportunities

The on-campus learning center is open for students in grades 6-12 from 8:00am - 3:00pm Monday - Thursday.  Lunch is available from 11:45am - 12:15pm.  Open Gym is available from 11:15am - 11:45am on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Art Club is available from 10:00am - 11:00am on Thursdays.  Spanish Club and J-STEM alternate weekly on Thursday from 1:30pm - 2:30pm.

In-Person & Split Schedule Course Absences

If your student is ill or coming to school late, please call (616) 457-8477 x2406 before the start of the school day to report your student's absence.  If Mrs.VanBuren doesn't answer, please leave a message with the student's name, your name and relation to the student, their teacher's name, and the reason for the absence.
