Congratulations to the Jenison Junior High students named to the All-State Middle School Honor bands, orchestras, and choirs! The 21st annual Michigan Music Conference kicked off today in Grand Rapids and our students were there practicing with talented students from all over Michigan. Eighth Grade Clarinet player David Mills, 8th Grade Percussionist Jack Rutledge, and 7th Grade French Horn player Lydia Gembis worked with William Owens, a nationally-renowned composer and music educator.
Meanwhile upstairs, Junior High Choir Director Kyle Cain is directing a boys state honors choir and was joined by our 8th grader Greg Arebelo. Devin Healy-Courtright also received a 7th Grade Honorable Mention for Bassoon. Way to go, junior high music students and stay tuned for those recognized at the high school level!

Yesterday 8th grade students from Jenison Junior High checked out the high school’s incredible Career Technical Education (CTE) offerings! The annual visit started in the media center before moving to the construction classes, finance/marketing classes, Cats Corner, and The Green Bean.
Eighth graders learned from staff and students how they can use these classes to gain college credit or work certification, obtain job skills, and even get opportunities for school trips. Keep up the great work, Jenison High School CTE!

Special shoutout to Rosewood parent Mike Sailsbury for making a big difference today at the school through its WATCH D.O.G.S. program! Dads of Great Students provides positive male role models that serve in schools across the country, including JPS schools. This afternoon we dropped by as Sailsbury played with his 5th grade daughter and her friends on the playground. He also helped students practice math flash cards among many other volunteer duties. Thank you for donating your time to make a positive impact, Mike!

Thanks to a grant from the Jenison Public Education Foundation, 6th grade students at Bursley Elementary had the opportunity to design and paint artwork on new soup bowls! They will be given to local residents in need who are served by God's Kitchen in Grand Rapids.
"We have spent this year emphasizing the importance of making a positive impact in everything we do. Participating in this project allowed us to put that focus into action within our community," 6th Grade Teacher Samantha Anderson said. "It was rewarding to see students take pride in their individual designs and creations for the bowls. Thank you to the Jenison Public Education Foundation for providing this meaningful opportunity."
