This past weekend the Little Cats Color Guard made their debut at the Jenison Contest! It is the Jenison Winterguard program’s first year having an elementary team and there are more than 40 members from elementary schools across the district. With the theme of Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride, the team impressed the packed gymnasium. Great work, color guard!

This week we dropped by Mr. Gifford’s art class at the Junior High to check out the Trash Titans project, a hands-on lesson back by popular demand this quarter! Students designed and constructed a large-scale sculpture, inspired by artist Thomas Dambo, using a minimum of three categories of upcycled materials brought in by students and staff.
They also developed a narrative that establishes the Titan’s purpose as a protector or promoter of an environmental or community cause. The sculptures will soon be displayed in the school’s courtyard and all the materials will be recycled afterwards. Fun idea and great work, junior high art students!

After finishing the regular season winning two of three games, the Jenison Hockey team displayed another gritty performance in its regional playoff game against Grand Haven on Monday. There were goalie collisions, huge checks, and an amazing comeback in the final minutes of regulation to send the game to overtime. After an unsuccessful power play by Jenison early on, Grand Haven scored to end the Wildcats season. Way to give it your best, Wildcat Hockey!

So proud to see our Junior High Honors Band members recognized by the Board of Education last night! 🎶👏

I love all the guys, like brothers, and I’m just really happy to be a part of the team again,” he said. Go bowling!

Big shoutout to Joe Morse and Julie Oosterink for being named the January Winning Wildcats at Jenison High School! Joe was nominated because he stopped and picked up two students who went in the ditch on the way to school so that they wouldn’t be late. He also works hard to keep the parking lots and building up to date on all things maintenance.
Julie was nominated because she does an incredible job of connecting with and inspiring her students. She consistently challenges, encourages, affirms, and supports her students while going above and beyond teaching.
