Jenison High School Director of Bands Dave Zamborsky has been selected as the 2026 District 10 Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) Teacher of the Year for Band.
Zamborsky has served on the District 10 Executive Board and hosted MSBOA Band and Orchestra Festival for many years, according to Matt Palmieri, President of MSBOA District 10. He also is a mentor for many young directors, and his opinion is universally respected in District 10 and throughout the state, Palmieri said.
“Dave displays exceptional musicianship and pedagogy of the highest caliber. Dave has proven himself to be a fine music educator by providing outstanding teaching to the students in Jenison Public Schools and hundreds of hours of service to MSBOA,” Palmieri said. “We are thrilled to honor him with this award.”
Zamborsky’s name will be forwarded to the State MSBOA office for consideration for the state-wide teacher of the year honor, Palmieri said. Three District Teacher of the Year candidates from the entire state will be selected for the MSBOA members to vote on this fall. If selected, this award would be presented at the 2027 Michigan Music Conference.
Being recognized by his peers, who understand the day-to-day life of being a band director, is quite an exciting honor, Zamborsky said. He recently led the marching band to its 8th consecutive state championship and a Class AA runner-up in the semi-finals of the Bands of America Grand Nationals in Indianapolis.
