Principals outside the dunk tank
Donations are pouring in across the district for the annual Your Change Can Change Hunger campaign.

The Jenison Public Schools community has raised $249,412 for Hand2Hand over the last 27 years of the campaign. The fundraiser wraps up today.

Yesterday the Junior High rolled out a dunk tank from Sammy's Party on Wheels to raise money for the cause. Numerous teachers, staff, and principals were dunked throughout the day.

Assistant Principal Heather Breen said there was a great turnout of students all day long. Her experience being dunked was much better than she expected.

"It was very delightful. I have to say it was decently warm going early," she said. "I was dunked several times by many kids here today."

Deputy Adam VanDis, the school's resource officer, was dunked over the lunch time period while in his uniform. He said he's never done a dunk tank before and he really enjoyed it.

"It's for a great cause," he said. "A lot of fun. Happy to help."

Students posing with change

Meanwhile at Pinewood Elementary 5th graders in Mrs. U’Ren’s class were locked in all week as they counted the school’s donations for the campaign.

Each day the students collected the change from each classroom, counted it, and then delivered it to the main office.
