Jenison Public Schools has hired an experienced athletic director and former college athlete to serve as the next assistant athletic director for the district.
Daniel Russell will begin his role in July, taking over for current Assistant Athletic Director Todd Graham who is retiring.
Russell has demonstrated a deep commitment to student-athlete development during his career. He currently serves as the Director of Athletics and Activities for Royal Oak Schools, where he has led initiatives to enhance athletic programs and student engagement.
Previously, Russell was the Athletic Director at Allendale Public Schools, demonstrating a consistent track record of leadership and dedication to excellence in school athletics.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from Eastern Michigan University and a Master’s in Education from Grand Valley State University. Russell also played baseball for Eastern Michigan University, which he said taught him teamwork, time management and work ethic.
Jenison Athletic Director Michael Johnston said he cannot wait to start working with Russell, who has more than four years of varsity baseball coaching experience.
“Daniel has a wealth of knowledge around interscholastic athletics and supporting student athletes to reach their full potential,” Johnston said. “Daniel is dedicated to the profession while having a get-it-done attitude and a passion for coaching coaches. Daniel will be a key piece to our continued growth and success on and off the playing surface.”
