WELCOME TO THE 2009-2010 SCHOOL YEAR!

Welcome to Jenison

Whether you are with us for the first time or have been with us for years, we are thrilled to have your children attend what we believe is one of the best school districts in the state of Michigan. Although we have earned many accolades over the past many years, we are not a district that rests on its laurels. All of us are working diligently to make sure our district continues to provide the best possible educational programming for your children.

I am convinced that the 2009-2010 school year is going to be incredible. Our building principals, teachers, and paraprofessionals are primed and ready to meet the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical needs of each and every student who will be attending Jenison Public Schools. We are committed to build meaningful relationships with every child so that we will be able to instill the knowledge that he or she needs to be successful in life.

We also need your support and participation if we are going to make this a great year for all of the children who  attend Jenison Public Schools. I realize it is a busy and expansive world and your time is at a premium. However, I can’t emphasize enough how important your willingness to “build a bridge” with your children’s school is to their level of success. We want to be partners with you in providing the best educational experience we can for your children. We value and appreciate your input and support. With today’s technology, we are only a telephone call or e-mail away, so please stay connected. Secondary parents are highly encouraged to make use of PowerSchool Parent. You will find this to be an outstanding tool for keeping track of your children’s progress in their various classes, as well as providing a link for communication with their teachers.

I am looking forward to working with you and your children during the upcoming  school year. There is no question in  my mind that with all of us working together, we will have an outstanding year!

With warmest regards,

Tom TenBrink
Superintendent

2010 Coach Visser Classic

It is that time of year again, we are preparing for the 7th annual Coach Visser Classic basketball tournament.

For anyone who is not familiar with the roots of this event, Adam Visser was an 8th grade boys basketball coach at Jenison Junior High School. During this time he was diagnosed with ALS, otherwise known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease." Adam fought the disease for over three years and he passed away in the winter of 2007. Some of his former players wanted to financially help out Adam's family. As a result, they decided the best way to raise money would be through a 3-on-3 basketball tournament. Over the the past six years we have raised over $120,000; the money that has been raised has been given to Adam's family, ALS research and to deserving families in the community.

There will not be dinner this year, but registration will begin at 5PM and continue until 7PM on Friday, April 23. The tournament will be held on Saturday, April 24 at Jenison Senior and Junior High Schools. We are asking that anybody wishing to participate in the tournament have their entry forms turned into Jenison Junior High School's main office by Wednesday, April 21 (checks should be made payable to Jenison Public Schools). The cost will be $100 per team and a completed registration form is required. Anyone 10 years of age or older is welcome to play.

We are excited to put this tournament together, but as always we need your help to spread the word to all of the local communities. If at all possible we would really like to get our student committee involved.  We have broken them down into subcommittees and three students (C.J. VanTimmeren, Jake Arntson, and Kyle Vachon) have been given the task of marketing (under supervision).  If you would be willing to help, please contact Kevin Fales at 457-1402 Ex. 3133.
